About Sophia

Sophia Betancourt graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and completed additional areas of study in education, special education, and sign language.

“I am very excited to be a part of the Summit School team because the values and mission of the School fall parallel to my own as an educator. I wanted to be a part of a greater academic community that focuses on students as individuals and places an emphasis on providing them with the tools needed to succeed not just in school, but in the ever-changing real world. I’ve found that community at Summit School of the Poconos,” Sophia says.

Sophia is an active participant in her community and has volunteered for various causes including Camp Hero (Deaf/HH children), ASL Family Fun Fair, Special Olympics, Equilibrium Inc. (horse therapy for children and adults with special needs), and as an Election Poll Translator.

Born and raised in the Poconos, Sophia now lives in Gilbert. In her free time, she enjoys traveling to new places and spending time outdoors, either hiking or walking with her dog.
