Summit School of the Poconos is no longer operational, as of July 2022. All Summit team efforts are currently focused on building Summit Charter School. This site remains active to provide information about the educational model upon which the Summit Charter School is based.
Barbara Fredericks holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree from Columbia University in the City of New York, both in Dental Hygiene Education. Before retiring from her chosen field of profession, Barabara was an Instructor at Fairleigh Dickinson in the Dental Hygiene department.
Owners of Shawnee Mountain Ski Area since 1996, Barbara and her husband, Nick, are actively involved in the daily management and operations of the business. She has also served the mountain as a Ski Patroller Senior Member, teaching first aid and first aid instructors.
Barbara is well known in the Pocono Community as a highly involved community member with many years of volunteerism. Over her tenure, she has helped to collectively raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in leadership roles for causes that include Women’s Resources of Monroe County, Pocono Medical Center, and the American Cancer Society, where she also served as a board member. Today she serves as a leader of the Outreach Committee at Summit School of the Poconos as well as serving on the Board of Directors, where her grandson attends elementary school.
Barbara has been a resident of the Poconos since 1978. “My children grew up in the area, but the local schools did not meet their needs, even then. I see the Summit School as a true gift to our community. I’m witness to the joy on my grandson’s face every day he attends school there, and I believe other kids in the area should have that same opportunity. This school has much to offer, and I aim to see it grow and prosper,” Barbara says.
In her free time, Barbara enjoys spending time with her grandkids and family, skiing, and traveling with her husband, Nick. They live in Shawnee-on-the-Delaware.
